So you want to know more about the URCGO.

The URCGO (University of Richmond Computer Gaming Organization) was founded, officially, by Nathaniel Givens early this semester. There were actually a lot of people involved from the beginning, though, and the URCGO as it exists today is a result of collusion of a lot of good ideas from a lot of good people.

Essentially, we're the club for gamers. This means that we have a lot of different goals. We seek to provide gamers with unique opportunities, at no cost to them (hence our fledgling Inter-Dorm Play on Thursday nights). We plan on creating a software library for members of the club, on running tournaments here on campus, on organizing competitions with other schools, and anything else that will profit gamers and by extension the University of Richmond.

At the heart of all our plans, however, is our dream of establishing a computer lab just for gamers. This lab would contain at least 12 top of the line machines, be open 24 hours a day, and be run entirely by members of the club.

We realize that this endeavor would entail an enormous start up fund, not to mention continuos support, but as computer gaming inevitably grows to be a more important and integral part of students lives, we believe that such labs will one day be commonplace in schools across the nation. With professional leagues holding $100,000 competitions multiple times a year, it's only a matter of time before the collegiate gaming scene grows to be as, or almost as important, as varsity sports are on campus.

Already, organizations like CIGL bring together hundreds of colleges and thousands of students to compete in a giant collegiate league, and this is just the beginning. Already college clubs at other schools use the academic labs for gaming after-hours. The real question, we believe, is whether the University of Richmond will be on the cutting edge, or whether we will be just another school that supports it's gamers.

If you want to be a part of all this, just send your name in to URCGO and ask to be a member. There are no dues for this club, there is no obligation whatsoever. You don't even have to play PC games.

If you want to know our exact goals, and the exact rules for membership, then just take a look at our constitution.

And, beyond all else, please drop us a line with your ideas and suggestions. This club is about the gamers, and we will do everything we can to meet your needs as fully as possible.

If you want to join because you want to play, then go ahead. If you want to be a part of getting a computer gaming lab on campus, then go ahead and join. If you have your own ideas, then go ahead because the most important function the URCGO will ever be able to do is to bring together people who like games. Anyone from the hard-core strategist to the trigger-happy first person shooter. URCGO is where your ideas can become realities.

See you in the game.
