Volunteerism and Fundraising Events Members of Gamma Eta are committed to helping children with cancer through acts of volunteering and fundraising, benefiting both our chapter’s local philanthropy A.S.K., the Association for the Support of Children with Cancer, and Tri Delta’s national philanthropy, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Throughout the school year, sisters visit
the children's ward of St. Mary's Hospital here in Richmond. Our chapter also holds many fundraising events to benefit our various philanthropies:
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
St. Jude is a world-renowned pediatric treatment and research facility where medical scientists are making breakthroughs daily in the fight against children's cancer. St. Jude offers the latest in treatment and care, both through medical and psychological support. St. Jude is America's 4th-largest health-care charity. Patients are accepted for treatment without regard to the family's ability to pay. St. Jude helps to provide transportation, lodging, meal costs, and much more for the patients' families. In addition to providing patients and families with emotional support, the hospital's teaching staff offers education for out-of-town patients during their stay in Memphis. A.S.K., the Association for the Support of Children with Cancer, was formed in 1975 by a group of Virginia parents who were battling childhood cancer in their families. A.S.K. is a non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to provide social, emotional, spiritual, and financial support for young cancer patients and their families. A.S.K. helps to fund clinical and diagnostic research at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals at Virginia Commonwealth University to help in the search for a cure for cancer.
