Spider Advanced Emergency Rescue Service

Background:

We are a group of certified Emergency Medical Technicians that respond to emergencies of varying severity on the UR campus.  We are the first link in the chain of emergency response before ambulance arrival.  Two members of the group are on call for 24-hour shifts, each carrying an alphanumeric pager for this period.   After an emergency call is received by the UR Police Department, both police and SAVERS members are dispatched to the scene.

For each emergency call, police and SAVERS members work in tandem to assess the situation, provide necessary medical assistance, and determine if further medical attention is required.  Police carry a full first-aid kit and oxygen supplies.

How to become a member:

All members must be EMT-Basic certified and CPR certified.  These courses are typically offered on campus--information on dates will be posted to this website when they are known.  If you are already an EMT in another state, refer to the Links page for ways to see if your certification can be given reciprocity in Virginia. Students interested in learning more about the program can email savers@richmond.edu.
