The philanthropy is one of the most important aspects of the fraternity,
and the brothers of VA TAU continue to make philanthropy a fixture of SAE.

VA Tau began working with the Special Olympics of Virginia (SOVA) in the
fall of 2004 because several brothers in the fraternity had siblings and
other family members with special needs. Over the course of the past year
and a half the fraternity has developed a strong relationship with the
organization and continues to make great strides with the charity.

In early February 2006 the brotherhood participated in the Polar Plunge
for the first time. The Polar Plunge is SOVA's largest annual fundraiser
and it has raised over 2 million dollars for the organization over the
years. The brothers set an initial goal of raising $10,000 through the
event, but quickly exceeded that goal. When all was said and done the
fraternity had raised just over $25,000! The 2006 plunge was the largest
ever and VA TAU was proud to be a part of it. All told over 3,500 people
jumped into the Atlantic Ocean, raising $575,000.

As a fraternity, SAE strives to continue to make the philanthropy an
important part of our lives. We hope to continue to have a strong
relationship with SOVA and look forward to more opportunities to raise
money and participate in events.
