Kappa Kappa Gamma Philanthropy

Zeta Omicron Philanthropy

Service is a vital element of Kappa. The opportunity to work together in a community effort gives each member a true sense of sisterhood and volunteerism.

The event we look forward to most is Kappa Klassic, our 6th annual charity golf tournament which raises money for our local philanthropy, the YWCA Women's Advocacy Program and Kappa's own philanthropy, the Rose McGill Fund. The Women's Advocacy Program provides confidential services including two 24 hour crisis hotlines, domestic violence and sexual assault counseling, support groups, and the only confidential shelters serving women and children fleeing family violence in the Richmond area. The Rose McGill Fund, our national philanthropy, provides aid for Kappas in times of financial difficulty. Our chapter is very proud to support these causes and over the last five years we have raised over $5000!

If you would like to play in Kappa Klassic, please get in touch with University of Richmond's Student Activities and they can direct you from there. Every year, during the week before Valentine's Day, you can find 2-3 Kappas in Thomas Haynes Commons selling "Kappa Kisses." A "Kappa Kiss" is a bag of Hershey's Kisses candies. Anyone can buy a "Kappa Kiss" for a friend, a significant other or even a secret crush, and Kappa members personally deliver the Kisses to their door on Valentine's Day. All the proceeds from "Kappa Kisses" go to the YWCA Women's Advocacy Program.

By no means, are Kappas limited to the above charities. Last Spring, we had girls volunteer at Child Abuse Now, Boys and Girls Clubs and Habitat for Humanity.

We also encourage Kappa members to attend University of Richmond-led charity events, such as the annual "Community Service Day," "Trick or Treat Street" and last year's "Merriwood Miracle." In addition, members of Kappa take part in other Greek-affiliated philanthropic events, such as Pi Beta Phi's annual "Lip Sync' Contest" and Sigma Chi's "Derby Days."

Kappa Kappa Gamma National Philanthropy

Though much of our charitable efforts benefit non-members of Kappa, we try to locate and assist our sisters who are experiencing a time of need. Thus, the Rose McGill Fund, mentioned above, and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation were created.

The Rose McGill fund was established in 1922 to provide confidential aid to Kappa alumna members who find themselves suddenly and unexpectedly in need. This aid is given for care and support, for a one-time emergency or for an extended period of time, depending on available fund. We encourage you to call 1-800-KKG-ROSE if you are interested in subscribing to any magazine!

The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation donates money to support our high standards of scholarship, leadership, ethical principals and service. Contributions to the foundation support scholarships and educational and leadership programming for Kappa members.
