Anchor Splash®
Delta Gamma's main philanthropic event is Anchor Splash. Anchor Splash is a week long, campus-wide philanthropic fundraising event. Last year, the Zeta Gamma chapter of Delta Gamma raised money for the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in addition to the money given to the Delta Gamma Foundation.
DG Charity Denim
Hosted by Zeta Gamma for the first time last semester, Charity Denim was an extremely fun and successful fundraiser. Charity Denim is a company that works with sorority chapters across the nation, selling high-end, name brand denim jeans at highly discounted prices. At 60-70 % off, these jeans were a huge hit on the University of Richmond campus. In spring 2006, we sold 210 pairs of jeans and raised $2100 for Service for Sight and the Delta Gamma Foundation.
Sight Saving Tips:
Sunglasses
“With more Americans heading outside to enjoy the spring and summer activities, the potential risk of damage to the eyes from ultraviolet rays from the sun increases greatly. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause burns to the surface of the eye. And, the cumulative affect of UV damage has been linked to cataracts and age-related macular degeneration later in life,” states Prevent Blindness America. Therefore, it is important to wear sunglasses with UV protection and a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.
Diet
Eating foods high in antioxidants, like fruits and vegetables, may also help in the retaining of eyesight. Studies show that diets that are high in antioxidants can slow or halt the progression of some forms of macular degeneration. So remember to eat your carrots and other fruits and vegetables in order to protect your eye sight.
