Second Annual Peter-Paul Development Center Field Day Scheduled!!!
We are very excited to have our second annual Peter-Paul Development Field Day scheduled. It will be on April 9th 2005 on Millheiser Green from 11:00-3:00. This event is free for all with music, food, and games. We invited the kids from the Peter-Paul Development Center to come and spend the day with us. Last year over 100 UR students volunteered their time to help run games, make food, and to play games with the kids. To learn more about the event please contact Joe Felici at joe.felici@richmond.edu . To see the Collegian article from last year click here. 2004-2005 University of Richmond Micah Initiative Award
Every year, two students involved in the Micah Initiative are presented with an award which signifies their commitment to helping children. If you know someone who you believe has gone above and beyond the call of duty while volunteering please send us their name and a two paragraph explanation as to why you think that this is a good person to receive this award. E-mail Mike Gray at mike.gray@richmond.edu with any questions or nominations that you would like to present.
Important Information for any Volunteer/Mentor in Richmond Public Schools
Beginning in the Fall of 2004, all volunteers/mentors will need to be screened for a background check in accordance with new laws enacted by the Richmond Public School System. All volunteers will need to complete a four page application and mail it to the Office of RPS Volunteer/Mentor Programs, attn: Karen Smith. The check could take up to three weeks so if you are planning to work at either Whitcomb Court Elementary School or Fairfield Court Elementary School please get the application as soon as possible. Once you have been approved to work by the Richmond Public School System your permit to work will last for exactly one calendar year. For more information on this please contact the Micah Initiative or view the application online here.
Thanks to the help of all of mentors, last year Whitcomb Court Elementary School was able to pass their SOL Tests. The work is not over though. We have a long way to go as we embark on this mission to make sure all of these students are given an equal opportunity.
